Story 1: There once was a man who got off the train when it was his stop. He stayed on the sidewalk and walked to the crosswalk. Then he waited until the sign said to cross. Then he did.

Story 2: There once was a man who got off the train when it was his stop. He didn't want to take the ten extra steps to walk to the end of the platform, so he turned and cut his way across the train tracks and . . .
Cliff hanger? Yup. Because it is. look at this picture. When the person started walking across the tracks, they had no way of knowing if there would be a car coming by the time they got around that barrier.
Not to mention it just isn't advisable to walk on train tracks . . .

Life is crazy enough without walking across the metaphorical tracks. Sometimes "I'm sure I'll be fine," just won't be enough.
